Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and volunteering for the community. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on a Eufala farm. He played football with three of his brothers in Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in the entire nation. In his three years as the team's starter, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975, and was selected as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned a degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during college. After college, he moved to Tampa and played nine seasons for Tampa's Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro for three occasions. He then began his professional career. The year 1988 was the first time he worked as an Account Relation Manager for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being one of the top 10 youngsters from the United States. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He coached his university team in 1975. In 1993, he was appointed the assistant director of Athletics at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
